- Vacation with dog
Our sunny mountain world offers not only you unforgettable vacation moments, but also your four-legged friend. Together you can hike, take countless trips and discover cozy mountain huts.
- Leash duty - where does it apply?
In our villages, on hiking trails and in the forest, a leash is generally required. In public transport and in cable cars, a muzzle is also mandatory.
- Dog ban!
Please note that the hiking path along the Salzach between the dog training field in Niedernsill and the Hummersdorfer bridge is prohibited for dogs. Please use the Tauern bike path here.
- Encounter with grazing animals - be careful!
During the summer months, pastures and many alpine areas are grazed. In particular, mother cows instinctively protect their calves. Therefore, avoid contact. Keep dogs on a leash at all times. If a cow reacts aggressively, release the dog immediately. This way you protect yourself, your dog - and the animals.
- Are there any off-leash areas?
In Hummersdorf/Piesendorf you will find a fenced dog field where your dog can romp without a leash. Would you also like the location on Maps? Search for: Hundewiese Hummersdorf. From the Tauernhütte and Haus Alpenliebe: 20-minute walk.

Fenced dog field at Lake Zell.
Your four-legged friend can run free on the dog pasture at the Erlberg bathing resort. The obligation to wear a leash or muzzle that applies in the urban area of Zell am See does not apply here - so there is plenty of room to run around. The dog zone is open all day
- Bathing with dog
Especially on midsummer days, the cool water in Zell am See-Kaprun beckons: how convenient that Lake Zell is right under your nose. Dogs also like to cool off in high temperatures and enjoy taking a dip in the lake.
There is no special dog beach in the region, but as long as the dog does not have to wear a leash or muzzle, nothing prevents him from splashing around in the water. Exceptions to this are the lidos and official bathing zones: Here, unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the water. Another swimming possibility is the Klammsee in Kaprun.
Dogs are allowed to swim here as long as they follow the local leash and muzzle rules. By the way, just like for owners and mistresses, the same goes for dogs on bathing days: cooling off slowly is easier for circulation!
In Piesendorf, dogs can swim in the Salzach River or in Piesendorf's Overflow basin
- Is there a dog boarding house?
Yes! Piesendorf is home to the Trumlinghof, a lovingly managed dog boarding house with flexible boarding options.
- Why is cleaning up dog waste so important?
Dog poop contains bacteria that can make our farmers' hay unusable - and in the worst case, make cows sick. Therefore, use dog poop bags and dispose of them in the designated trash bins - for the environment and harmonious cooperation in nature.
- What activities are possible with dog?
At numerous attractions in our region, dogs are welcome.
Please clean up dog waste in the garden at Haus Walchen, Haus Alpenliebe and the Tauernhütte.
